Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park closed due to ongoing bushfires

Current closures

For public safety the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park remains closed to the public due to the ongoing fire threat as well as hazardous trees that are within the National Park.

There is no access or camping permitted in the area; fines may apply if you are found crossing through traffic management point road closed signs.

For campers with forward bookings, please contact Parks Victoria on 13 19 63 for further advice.

Upcoming weather and reopening plan

We are expecting challenging conditions over the coming weekend with very hot, dry and windy weather forecast on both Saturday and Sunday, combined with warm temperatures overnight on Saturday night. Conditions are forecast to ease Sunday evening into Monday.

If the fire remains within current containment lines and no significant fire activity is experienced, fire agencies are looking to re-open Halls Gap to businesses and visitors during next week.

The reopening of non-fire affected sections of the Grampians National Park will be assessed at the same time.

These decisions will be made in consultation with local municipalities, business/tourism groups and Parks Victoria.

Visitors to the area

The threat to townships has reduced, but community members and visitors to the open areas are reminded to stay vigilant and monitor conditions as situations can change quickly. Stay up to date on the VicEmergency Website or App www.emergency.vic.gov.au.

While the Grampians National Park remains closed, there are still other places that you can visit.  Surrounding communities are open and are welcoming visitors – these communities need your support.

For ideas for where else you can visit, go to: www.parks.vic.gov.au or  https://www.visitgrampians.com.au

The Grampians National Park will be reopened when it is safe to do so, we understand the priority to have this opened as soon as possible.
